Hydraulic Hand Lever Valve

A Hydraulic Hand Lever Valve is a manually operated directional control valve used to start, stop, and change the direction of hydraulic fluid flow in a hydraulic system. It is widely used where simple, reliable, and low-cost control is required.

Main Function

  • Controls direction of oil flow
  • Operates hydraulic cylinders or motors
  • Used where manual control is sufficient (no electricity needed)

Construction

  • Valve body (cast iron / steel / aluminum)
  • Spool or poppet mechanism

Working Principle

1. Lever at Neutral Position

  • Oil flow is blocked or diverted to tank
  • Actuator remains stationary

2. Lever Shifted

  • Spool moves inside the valve body
  • Hydraulic oil is redirected to the required port
  • Cylinder extends or retracts / motor rotates

3. Return

  • Lever may return by spring or stay in position depending on type

  • 2/2 Valve – On / Off control
  • 3/2 Valve – Single acting cylinder control
  • 4/2 Valve – Direction control
  • 4/3 Valve – Neutral, forward, reverse control
  • Spring Return / Detent Type
  • Monoblock / Sectional Valve

Center Conditions (4/3 Valve)

  • Open Center – Pump flow returns to tank
  • Closed Center – All ports blocked
  • Tandem Center – Pressure blocked, flow to tank
  • Float Center – Actuator free movement
