Hydraulic Gear Pump

A hydraulic gear pump is a positive displacement pump widely used in hydraulic systems to convert mechanical energy into hydraulic (fluid) energy.

What It Does

It moves hydraulic oil by trapping a fixed amount of fluid between rotating gears and the pump casing, then forcing it to the outlet under pressure.

Main Types of Hydraulic Gear Pumps

1. External Gear Pump (Most Common)

  • Two identical gears mesh together
  • Simple, compact, economical
  • Pressure: up to 210–250 bar
  • Used in: hydraulic power packs, machine tools, tractors

2. Internal Gear Pump

  • One gear inside another (crescent-shaped separator)
  • Quieter operation, smoother flow
  • Used in low-noise applications
